Hungary, Greece, Cyprus to Restart Food Trade With Russia Despite Sanctions
MOSCOW  (Sputnik) — The European Union is interested in the elimination of discord in EU-Russia relations, EU ambassador to Russia Vygaudas Usackas said Wednesday.

"We are interested in liquidation of irritants and discrepancies in our relations," Usackas said at the roundtable meeting of the ambassadors of the EU member states with Russian lawmakers.

Usackas emphasized that Moscow and Brussels are closely interconnected in trade and economics. Russia and the European Union must act jointly to normalize bilateral ties, Usackas added.

The diplomat expressed regret that there remain tensions between Moscow and EU member states.

Brussels, with the encouragement of Washington, imposed several rounds of economic sanctions on Russia over alleged interference in the Ukrainian crisis. Russia has repeatedly denied the accusations, calling the sanctions illegal and counterproductive.

The restrictions target Russia's defense, banking and energy sectors as well as certain individuals tied by the West to the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine.
