Russia, Argentina to Discuss Increase in Bilateral Food Supplies
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Cyprus is ready to increase foodstuff deliveries to Russia if there is sufficient demand, Russia's state agriculture and veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said Tuesday.

In 2014, Moscow declared an embargo on food supplies from the European Union in response to the bloc's sanctions against Russia over allegations of interference with Ukraine's internal affairs.

"Given the deliveries will resume and there is a consistent demand from Russian consumers, Cyprus expresses interest in significantly increasing the supplies of authorized produce to the Russian market," Rosselkhoznadzor said in a statement.

Cyprus plans to deliver dairy and meat, as well as fish, when the embargo is eased.

The two countries discussed the development of an information exchange system and the improvement of food checks mechanisms.

In March, Russia said it was looking for ways to ease the embargo for Greece and Hungary, the nations whose leaders have publicly expressed discontent with the EU-imposed sanctions.
