The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested Al-Mahdi Jamali and Sabrine Djaermane, both aged 18, on the grounds that they were planning to commit a terrorism-related offense. The two Montrealers appeared in court but were not charged with any offense.

Al-Mahdi and Djaermane will remain in custody until their next court hearing on Monday. An investigation into them is underway, according to the RCMP.

Earlier, two other residents of Montreal were arrested on similar charges. Merouane Ghalmi, 22, and Daniel Minta Darko, 27, agreed to sign a peace bond, which prohibits them from travelling abroad for the next 12 months. They will also have to wear a GPS tracker.
