On Tuesday, the UN Security Council imposed an arms embargo on the Houthi rebels fighting against forces loyal to displaced Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. The Council also left it to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to negotiate the delivery of humanitarian aid to conflict-torn Yemen.
"God grant I hope I am mistaken, but I am afraid that yesterday's [UN] resolution will deepen our split, will further strengthen the crisis in Yemen and in the region," Talal Arslan said at a news conference at the Rossiya Segodnya press center in Moscow.
The "right" decision should be based on the will of the people as well as the principle of political non-interference, the politician stressed.
Lebanon believes in the wisdom of Russian politics and its ability to assist in a difficult situation, Talal Arslan said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Houthi representatives condemned the UN Security Council resolution, saying that it provided support to open aggression from Saudi Arabia in Yemen, according to local media.
In late March, a Saudi-led international coalition began targeting Houthi positions in Yemen, following a request for military help from Hadi.
