A 13-year-old surfing champion was killed in a shark attack on Sunday, in the Indian Ocean off Reunion Island, to the east of Madagascar.
According to reports, Canestri was surfing with a group of friends in waters that were off-limits to surfers and swimmers, on the west of the island.
The attack on the 13 year old is the 16th shark attack since 2011 in the waters around Reunion, seven of which have been deadly. In February, island authorities designated most areas of the sea off-limits after a non-fatal attack.
