PANAMA CITY (Sputnik) — The announcement was made at the conclusion of the eighth Summit of the Americas on Saturday by the host-country Panama.

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala has already given his consent, local media reported Saturday.

The Summit of the Americas is a gathering of countries from the Western Hemisphere in which policy solutions to urgent regional challenges are discussed. It takes place every three years.

The Summit of the Americas 2015 started on Friday evening and concluded on April 11. The event was attended by delegations of 35 countries and the leaders of 33 states.

The highest level event was the first summit attended by Cuban leader Raul Castro. On the sidelines of the forum, a historic meeting of US President Barack Obama with Castro took place as an attempt to improve relations with Cuba after more than 50 years of antagonism between the two countries.

Special attention was also drawn on Obama's meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
