MOSCOW (Sputnik) — UK Labour Party launched its Crime and Justice Manifesto on Friday ahead of the general election, criticizing the Conservatives’ approach to the criminal justice system and promising to change neighborhood policing.

“Under the Tories there are fewer police on the beat and victims aren’t getting the justice they deserve. We’ll turn that around,” the manifesto says.

The Labour Party promised to tackle the threat of terrorism, sexual exploitation and violence, prevent crime and build a modern, successful justice system.

The party also promised to launch a special program to stop young people from being radicalized.

The "short" general election campaign began in the United Kingdom on March 30.

The UK general election is scheduled for May 7, 2015. British citizens will elect representatives to sit in the House of Commons, the country's lower house of parliament, for the next five years.

The Labour and the Conservative parties are the two major rivals in the upcoming election.
