South Carolina Cop Faces Murder Charge After Video Shows Fatal Shooting
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Saturday fatal shooting of an unarmed African American Walter Scott by a white police officer Michael Slager in North Charleston, South Carolina could have been avoided, US Senator Tim Scott said on Wednesday.

The Senator called the video of the accident, shot by a passerby and released on Tuesday, deeply troubling. The video showed officer Slager, aged 33, shooting 50-year-old Walter Scott in the back.

North Charleston community members organized a rally on Wednesday morning in front of North Charleston City Hall protesting against police brutality.

Senator Scott warned against eruption of violence after the tragedy.

Officer Slager was arrested later on Tuesday and charged with murder.

The US Department of Justice said the case will be investigated by the FBI and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
