Trawler Sinking in Okhotsk Sea Likely Caused by Breach of Safety Rules
“Active searches resumed on Sunday. Twenty fishing vessels are currently at the site, a Be-200 plane will carry out air searches,” the spokesman told RIA Novosti, adding that two Mi-8 helicopters are expected to join the operation.

Fishing trawler Dalniy Vostok sank in the Sea of Okhotsk shortly before midnight on Wednesday. The accident claimed the lives of 56 of the 132 people on board the vessel, while 13 are still missing.

On Saturday, acting Sakhalin governor Oleg Kozhemyako stated that the ship's sinking was likely caused by the crew’s failure to comply with safety regulations. A criminal probe into the incident has been launched.
