Rescue teams resumed the air search for victims of the fishing trawler accident in the Sea of Okhotsk early Saturday morning.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The air search for victims of the recent trawler accident in the Sea of Okhotsk resumed in the early hours of Saturday, a spokesperson for the Emergencies Ministry in Russia’s Kamchatka region said.

Fishing trawler Dalniy Vostok sank in the Sea of Okhotsk shortly before midnight on Wednesday. The accident claimed the lives of 56 of the 132 people on board the ship, while 13 are still missing.

“Active searches resumed on Saturday morning. Two Mi-8 helicopters are expected to arrive to the accident site shortly. A Be-200 [amphibious aircraft] will also soon take off from Madagan,” the spokesperson told RIA Novosti, adding that fishing boats continued the search throughout the night.

Two vessels carrying victims of the accident are currently heading towards the city of Korsakov, according to the spokesperson.
