Yemen is suffering from violent confrontation between Houthi militants and forces loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. The Houthis have seized large parts across the country, including the capital of Sanaa.
On March 25, Hadi addressed the Arab League asking for military aid for his government in Yemen to counter the advance of the Houthi insurgency. Following the president's request, Saudi Arabia and a number of other countries launched airstrikes on the Houthi positions. Hadi fled the country amid hostilities and is believed to be in Riyadh.
Other states participating in the strikes include Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Morocco, Sudan, Pakistan, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
