A 19-year-old UK national was charged with terrorism offenses after being arrested at the Luton Airport after arriving from Istanbul, local police said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The teenager, Yahya Rashid, was charged “with the intention of committing act of terrorism,” as well as “intention of assisting others to commit acts of terrorism,” the Metropolitan Police Service said in a statement.

Rashid was detained on Tuesday and charged a day after, police said, adding that he is expected to appear at the Westminster Magistrate's Court later Wednesday.

Another UK national, 21-year-old Jamila Henry, was arrested at Luton Airport after arriving from Istanbul in March on suspicion of terror offenses. The Muslim convert had previously stayed in Syria and is believed to be linked to the Islamic State.

UK law enforcement has repeatedly expressed concern over Britons traveling to the Middle East to fight alongside extremists. The country's security services estimate that some 600 UK nationals have traveled to Syria and Iraq to join the Islamic State.
