countries led by Saudi Arabia launched a military campaign targeting the positions of Houthi rebels in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. The attack came in response to a request by Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. On Friday, Arab media outlets reported that the coalition started bombing Houthi militant defense forces in Al Hudaydah governorate.

“In response to the bombing of the airport in Hudaydah, Yemeni air defense forces have been returning fire for half an hour, but despite that the airport’s runway has been destroyed,” the source said.

According to Sputnik’s source in Yemen, the locals residing in the airport area had to leave their homes because of the bombings.

Hudaydah is Yemen’s second most important port after Aden. It is also the administrative centre of the country’s most populous governorate.
