Oslo police said Thursday evening it had cordoned off an area near a synagogue in the Norwegian capital, and bomb experts are heading to the scene.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Last month, one person was killed in a terrorist attack against a synagogue in another Scandinavian country, Denmark.

"Police are investigating an object in the area of the Jewish synagogue. The area is currently cordoned off," Oslo Police District said on its Twitter page.

Numerous armed police officers are currently at the synagogue, according to local media.

"We got a message about 20:14 of a suspicious object at the synagogue. We have cordoned off the area and explosives experts are on their way," police officer Rune Ullsand told the local Dagbladet newspaper.

Norway's Police Security Service has been informed of the situation.
