British low-cost airline EasyJet has introduced a new security rule, stipulating two crew members be in the cockpit at all times starting Friday, following the crash of the A320 plane in the French Alps, the company said in a statement Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the public prosecutor of Marseille, Brice Robin, said that the co-pilot of Germanwings flight 4U 9525, Andreas Lubitz, is likely to have intentionally crashed the plane, while being alone in the pilot cabin. Lubitz reportedly locked the other pilot out after he left the cockpit for several minutes.

"EasyJet can confirm that, with effect from tomorrow Friday March 27, it will change its procedure which will mean that two crew members will be in the cockpit at all times. The safety and security and of its passengers and crew is the airline's highest priority," the statement reads.

Lufthansa's low-cost airline Germanwings’ Airbus A320 passenger jet crashed in a remote area of the French Alps on Tuesday morning, killing all 150 people on board. The plane was heading to Dusseldorf from Barcelona.

Earlier on Thursday, the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority requested British airlines review current standards for cockpit security.

Canadian flag carrier Air Canada also announced that it was changing its policy concerning pilot cabin security and implementing a two-people rule.
