Kuwait Steps Up Security at Oil Facilities Amidst Yemen Crisis

Kuwait raised security around its oil facilities inside and outside the country Thursday after Saudi Arabia and Arab allies launched a military operation in Yemen.

"In the light of developments in Yemen and to protect the strategic interests of the oil sector and securing oil products for inside and outside several procedures and precautionary steps taken," official news agency KUNA quoted the Kuwait Petroleum Corp.’s  acting CEO Mohammad al-Farhoud as saying.

These measures include "securing all industrial safety and security requirements and raising the level of security measures and to intensify the protection of oil installations in Kuwait and abroad," he said.

Warplanes from Saudi Arabia and Arab allies struck Shi'ite Muslim rebels fighting to oust Yemen's President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi on Thursday.

According to the Saudi news outlet Al Arabiya, Saudi Arabia is contributing 100 warplanes and 150,000 soldiers to the military operation in Yemen.

According to Reuters, planes from Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain are also taking part in the operation.

In addition, Egypt, Pakistan, Jordan and Sudan are ready to participate in a ground offensive.
