MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The investigation involves 17 Twitter users writing 24 offensive tweets regarding the Catalan victims of the crash, according to Europa Press news agency.
Those who wrote the offensive tweets mocked the victims for their Catalan origins, local media outlet reported.
"If only all those who died in the plane crash were Catalan," one user reportedly tweeted. Another user wrote that the plane accident was "very good" as it involved Catalans.
On Tuesday, a Germanwings Airbus A320 crashed in the French Alps. The plane had 144 passengers and six members of crew on board.
According to local media, Francisco Martinez, state secretary for security of Spain, announced Wednesday that 49 Spaniards had lost their lives in the plane crash.
