MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The data, obtained by the Press Association from 24 UK police departments, suggested racism was widespread in England, affecting the country's most popular sport from the top to grassroots level.

"Especially worrying are the incidents of racist abuse at youth team football matches. People engaged in racist abuse at these venues know that they are more likely to get away with it," anti-racism campaigner Gavin Sutherland was quoted as saying by the Press Association.

The study suggested that the supporters of London club Chelsea have been involved in at least 15 racist incidents since 2012, more than any other club in the country.

Five Chelsea fans are due in court on Wednesday after allegedly blocking a black man from entering a train in the Paris Metro while chanting racist slogans, last month.

Manchester United were the second worst offenders with at least 10 racist incidents reported by police since 2012.
