US, Coalition Forces Conduct 14 Airstrikes Against ISIL - Central Command

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States-led coalition against the Islamic State conducted 14 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq, resulting in the destruction of tactical units, fighting positions, vehicles and machinery, the US Central Command said in a statement.

“On March 22, Coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria, using fighter and bomber aircraft to conduct eight airstrikes,” the statement, released on Monday, said.

“Separately in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted six airstrikes approved by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense,” the statement added.

Eight airstrikes destroyed four ISIL tactical units, a vehicle and 12 fighting positions near Kobani in northern Syria, according to the statement.

Iraqi Shia Militia Leader Blasts 'Weaklings' for Demanding US Airstrikes

In Iraq, the coalition conducted five airstrikes to the north and west of Baghdad, near Sinjar, Tal Afar, Rawa and Mosul. The airstrikes destroyed two ISIL fighting positions, a staging area, a tactical unit, a trailer and excavator.

Additionally, the Coalition forces conducted an airstrike near central Iraqi city of Ramadi, and destroyed an ISIL tactical unit and a fighting position.

The airstrikes were a part of Coalition’s Operation Inherent Resolve, whose goal is to eliminate the Islamic State terrorist group, according to the press release.
