Austrian Air Force Postpones Pilot Training Due to Unsuitable Candidates
19:27 GMT 23.03.2015 (Updated: 19:38 GMT 23.03.2015) The Austrian Air Force has put off its pilot training program due to the lack of suitable candidates.
"We had to postpone this year’s initial screening for future military pilots from May to the autumn of 2015 because with just two men we cannot enter this intense nine-week course of the ensuing multi-staged three-year program," said Colonel Peter Trierweiler, who is responsible for the training.
Only two out of 152 candidates who reported for medical examinations have passed as medically and mentally able.
According to HIS news site, government statistics show the medical fitness of young male Austrian conscripts in line with that in most Western European nations.
Austria has 14,120 active personnel and 4,273 reserve personnel in its Air Force.
