MURMANSK (Sputnik) – The participants of the "Friendship Ski Track" race, kicking off on Saturday, will have an opportunity to ski through the territories of Russia, Norway and Finland without a visa or passport, the sports and physical culture committee of the Russian Murmansk Region has told RIA Novosti.

"The opening of the 'Friendship Ski Track' is a spectacular traditional event. The border guards of Russia, Finland and Norway are the first to start and then a mass start is given," a representative of the sports committee said.

The "Friendship Ski Track" race is held every year, since 1995, in the region where the borders of Russia, Norway and Finland meet. It is a unique international sports event that allows thousands of skiers to cross the borders of the three countries three times in one day.

The 12.5-kilometer (7.6-mile) race starts in the Rayakoski village in the Russian Murmansk Region, which is a settlement located most closely to the trijunction between Finland, Norway and Russia.

The "Friendship Ski Track" race had to be cancelled last year because there was not enough snow in the area.
