Joint Forces Retake Nigerian Town From Boko Haram
18:24 GMT 09.03.2015 (Updated: 18:39 GMT 09.03.2015) Troops from Chad and Niger retook on Monday the northeastern Nigerian town of Damasak as part of a regional effort to combat the Boko Haram militants, AFP reports.
Boko Haram had controlled the town near the Niger border since November, part of a swathe of territory it had taken over in Nigeria’s northeast.

Some 200 Boko Haram fighters were killed in the offensive that began Sunday. Additionally, ten Chadian soldiers were killed and 20 wounded.
The offensive opened up a new front in the regional effort to wipe out the Islamist group, whose six-year insurgency has spread across borders.
It also came after Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria in an audio message at the weekend.
