Iraqi Forces Push ISIL out of Al Baghdadi With Coalition Aid - CENTCOM

According to US Central Command, he Iraqi security forces assisted by the US-led coalition against ISIL succeeded in pushing the militant group from the western Iraqi town of Al Baghdadi.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Iraqi security forces assisted by the US-led coalition against the Islamic State (ISIL) succeeded in pushing the militant group from the western Iraqi town of Al Baghdadi, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM) press release.

“Iraqi Security Forces and Tribal Fighters from the Anbar region have successfully cleared Al Baghdadi of ISIL [Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant], retaking both the police station and three Euphrates River bridges,” the press release, issued on Friday, said.

The US-led coalition delivered “precise and effective” airstrikes on ISIL positions in and around Al Baghdadi in support of the Iraqi government offensive, the release added.

Over the past two weeks, the coalition executed 26 airstrikes to facilitate the maneuver of the Iraqi Security Forces in addition to surveillance, operational and intelligence assistance, according to CENTCOM.

Moreover, the Iraqi Security Forces with coalition support managed to push ISIL out of seven villages northwest of Al Baghdadi, the release said.

The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been launching airstrikes against the ISIL in Iraq since last August, and in Syria since September.

In 2014, the ISIL seized vast areas across Syria and Iraq and declared an Islamic caliphate on the territories under its control.
