The commander of a pro-government volunteer battalion and his wife were injured when the van they were driving in exploded while in motion around noon local time in Ukraine's Kharkiv on Friday.

According to Ukrainian media reports, local residents heard the explosion as far as several blocks away.
The blast injured Andriy Yanholenko, the commander of the Slobozhanschina pro-government volunteer battalion and his wife were in the white Volkswagen minivan when it exploded and caught fire.
The Ukrainian Internal Ministry announced that it found the remains of a mine near the site of the explosion.
The blast comes less than two weeks after a blast during a pro-government rally in Kharkov which killed three people and injured nine more.
