Dana Rohrabacher claims that congress should invite Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Washington.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner should invite Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Washington, US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher announced in letter that he published on his website.

“Congress needs to hear directly from the key leaders of the Middle East,” Rohrabacher, a co-founder of the House Egypt Caucus, said on Wednesday. “That is why I have urged Speaker Boehner to invite Egypt’s President al-Sisi to follow with his own speech to a joint session.”

Rohrabacher argued that al-Sisi has made Egypt a bulwark against the spread of Islamic terrorism, and has called for reforms within the Islamic world so that it may live in peace and harmony with the modern world.

Moreover, the California Congressman called Egypt one of America’s strongest allies in the Arab world, and characterized Egypt’s president as a key global leader whom the United States should strongly support to stand up to Islamic extremists.

“Egypt is at a crossroads but has a strong leader that gives hope for increased security and prosperity in Egypt and the region,” Rohrabacher said.

Rohrabacher request follows the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the US Congress on Tuesday. Netanyahu addressed a joint session of Congress on the Boehner’s invitation, but the visit stirred up controversy after the White House accused Boehner of violating protocol. Boehner argued that he wanted to give Netanyahu a chance to express his views on Iran’s nuclear program.
