Pig Falls to Its Knees in Front of Buddhist Temple in China

A new bizarre video was published on YouTube this week. It shows a pig kneeling in front of a Buddhist temple in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province in China. Pictures and video of the bowing boar triggered active debates on Chinese social media of what the animal was doing.

The swine reportedly stayed on its forelimbs for hours, and only left the scene after a group of monks came and chanted a Buddhist scripture towards it, according to media outlets.

Some users in social media proposed that the pig was seeking a pilgrimage for a Chinese New Year’s blessing. Others said the animal was seeking food or resting. Another user concluded that it was suffering from a disease.

The owner of the pig later said the animal had escaped his hog pen on February 22, apparently in search for food. The irony is that he learned of pig’s popularity after the animal had been butchered.

It is clear that we will know what this devout pig was praying for.
