WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Senate voted on Friday to approve a $40 billion bill to fund the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through September 30, 2015.

Final Vote on ‘Clean’ DHS Funding Bill on Sunday – US Senator
“The vote on this 68 yeas, 31 nays. The bill as amended is passed,” US Senator Shelley Moore Capito, who presided over the vote, stated.

The DHS funding bill will now be sent to the US House of Representatives for a vote on Friday.

The DHS bill passed by the Senate is a “clean bill,” requested by US Senate Democrats and US President Barack Obama administration, and does not contain language to defund Obama’s November 2014 immigration executive order.

A separate Senate vote will follow immediately after the passage of DHS funding to authorize debate on a bill to defund President Obama’s executive action on immigration.

US Senate Democrats have blocked previously proposed DHS funding bills from coming to a vote because Republicans had included provisions barring funding for Obama’s executive order.
