Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak confirmed his participation in a meeting between Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission.

KRASNOYARSK (Sputnik) — Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak confirmed on Friday his participation in a trilateral meeting on gas supplies issue between Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission (EC) on March 2 in Brussels.

“I have confirmed my participation, and we plan to discuss full spectrum of relations in Brussels, including, in the first place, the implementation of Brussels agreements reached on October 31,” Novak said in the framework of the economic forum in Krasnoyarsk.

The European Commission has earlier proposed holding the trilateral meeting to discuss the issue of Russian gas supplies to Ukraine.

No Decision to Halt Gas Deliveries to Ukraine Yet – Russian Energy Minister
Novak said that during the talks, the issue of Russian gas supplies to eastern Ukrainian Donbas may also be discussed.

Earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia intends to suspend gas deliveries to Ukraine unless Kiev makes a further prepayment since the remaining balance covers only couple of days of gas supply.

Kiev's massive gas debt, exceeding $5 billion at the time, forced Moscow to suspend gas deliveries to Ukraine for nearly six months in 2014. Deliveries resumed in early December under the so-called winter package deal, mediated by the European Union and signed by Gazprom and Naftogaz in October 2014.

The deal stipulated that Ukraine must cover its debt, and pay Russia in advance for all future gas supplies.
