WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A bipartisan group of US Senators introduced a bill that offers significant monetary rewards for information leading to the arrest or conviction of ISIL militants responsible for the recent executions of Americans, Senator Marco Rubio said in a statement.
“The amended bill would offer rewards of up to $5 million for information on the kidnapping and murder of journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, and American aid workers Abdul-Rahman (Peter) Kassig and Kayla Mueller,” the statement said.
The bill would update the existing US State Department’s Rewards for Justice Program, and would prohibit rewards to individuals affiliated with, or supporting foreign terrorist organizations, it added.
“The fight against ISIL [Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant] hit home for Floridians when Steven Sotloff, an American journalist from Florida, was brutally murdered at the hands of these radical Islamic extremists,” the statement added.
US Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Bill Nelson, Dan Coats, John McCain, Jeff Flake, Joe Donnelly, and Ted Cruz were responsible for introducing the bill, the statement said.
US Representative Paul Gosar introduced similar legislation in the US House of Representatives.
