MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The director of counterterrorism plans, programs and policy at the US Department of State was arrested for allegedly arranging sex with a minor, Fox News reported Wednesday.

According to the media outlet, Daniel Rosen, 45, was arrested Tuesday at his home in Washington DC after a police officer, posing as a female minor, engaged in online conversations with him. He is facing charges of use of a communications device to solicit a juvenile.

"We are aware that a State Department employee has been arrested and charges have been issued," Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said late Tuesday as quoted by Fox News.

"His security clearance will be suspended and he will be put on administrative leave while this proceeds to its end through any judicial process. We are following standard procedure in this case," Psaki added.

Rosen, a UCLA graduate, has been occupying the position in the State Department since August 2008.

His LinkedIn page says he is in charge of the counterterrorism Bureau's budget and policy planning, overseeing $300 million annually in programs related to countering violent extremism.
