UK, France Close Embassies in Yemen Following Similar US Move
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — United Arab Emirates Foreign Ministry announced Saturday that it was halting the work of the embassy in Yemen's capital Sanaa, following a coup by Houthi rebels, the UAE state news agency WAM reported.

According to the media outlet, the decision was made due to "increasing deterioration of the political and security situation Yemen is witnessing and the tragic events after the Houthis undermined the legitimate authority."

On February 6, the Houthi rebels dissolved the Yemeni parliament in the capital Sanaa and created a presidential council in a "constitutional declaration."

Two Blasts Hit Yemen’s Hadhramaut Province
The UAE move comes after France, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and the United States announced that their embassies were suspending their operations earlier this month.

The Houthis, who are the main opposition group in Yemen, first staged massive protests against tribal injustice on the part of the Yemeni government last August. They called for the resignation of the president and several officials.

Following months of clashes across Yemeni capital Sanaa, the group captured the presidential palace and government buildings, leading to the resignations of Yemeni President Abd Mansour Hadi and the country's government in January.
