A ferry with 200 passengers on board capsized in a river in Bangladesh on Friday. Rescuers have pulled two bodies from the water.

Rescuers in Bangladesh retrieved two bodies from the water and launched a search operation for survivors after an overloaded ferry with 200 passengers aboard capsized in a river on Friday, according to police.

Most of the passengers managed to swim to shore, a local police official said.

There was no immediate estimate of the number of passengers unaccounted for, although two bodies were pulled out of the water, according to the official.

Most of those aboard were traveling to a religious gathering at Barguna from the coastal town of Kuakata.

Last August, Bangladesh authorities arrested the owner of a ferry that sank in a river, killing nearly 110 people.
