Obama To Seek Approval to Fight ISIL

Subscribe
The Obama administration plans to ask Congress for broader authority in using force against the Islamic State, according to congressional aides.

The administration hopes that its formal Authorization to Use Military Force will be granted by Wednesday.

President Obama first launched airstrikes to fight the terrorist group in Iraq and Syria last August, citing legal precedent in orders made by former President George W. Bush.

Many members of Congress worry that the air campaign against the Islamic State is a presidential overstep and an abuse of power.
