Al-Shabab Guns Down Somali Lawmaker, Promises to Butcher Rest 'One by One'

A Somali lawmaker was gunned down in Mogadishu as he was heading to work, while the group responsible issued a warning to the rest and the country's parliament defiantly approves a new government.

Somalia's parliament approved a new cabinet on Monday, hours after al-Shabab fighters assassinated a Somali lawmaker in a drive-by shooting as he was heading to the parliament in Mogadishu, AFP reports.

"We killed the lawmaker. We shall continue killing them one by one," al-Shabab's spokeman told Reuters.

The lawmaker, Abullahi Qayad Barre, was assassinated while he was in his car, according to AP. The attack comes two days after al-Shabab assassinated a legislator in Kenya. The group assassinated at least five Somali lawmakers in 2014.

The attack did not stop Somalia's legislators from voting in a new cabinet, which consist of 26 ministers and 40 deputy ministers, according to AFP.
