“I will meet with President Poroshenko on Saturday in Munich,” Stoltenberg said during a press conference in Brussels.
On February 6-8, 2015, the Munich Security Conference will take place in that city, promoting international cooperation in dealing with acute security issues.
Over the past months, NATO has also been strengthening its military presence in Eastern Europe in light of the Ukrainian crisis, arguing that it must protect its allies. NATO blamed Moscow for arming independence supporters in eastern Ukraine, but has failed to provide evidence in support of the claims. Moscow has repeatedly denied the allegations and expressed concern over the buildup of NATO forces by its borders.
In the wake of recently intensified fighting between Kiev and eastern Ukrainian independence forces, NATO military commander Gen. Philip Breedlove recommended supplying Kiev with lethal aid, The New York Times said.
