The award-winning journalist and two his colleagues were accused in Egypt of allegedely aiding the blacklisted Muslim Brotherhood.

Australian journalist Peter Greste arrived home in Australia after he was freed from an Egyptian prison where he spent more than 400 days, AFP reports.

The award-winning journalist was to meet his family before delivering a brief statement to journalists. He is also scheduled to hold a press conference in Brisbane.

The Al Jazeera journalist and his two colleagues were accused of aiding the blacklisted Muslim Brotherhood movement. The journalists received between seven and ten years in jail. Egypt’s Court of Cassation overturned the sentences in the beginning of January.

Greste was deported from Egypt by presidential decree on Sunday. His colleagues, Canadian-Egyptian Mohamed Fahmy and Egyptian national Baher Mohamed, remain in jail in Cairo.

The case sparked public outcry and international condemnation.
