After oft-repeated denials, the United States has finally admitted having played a role in “brokering a power transition” in Ukraine.

MOSCOW – Commenting on the recent President Barack Obama’s interview with CNN, Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman said that Washington failed to foresee the impact this revelation will have on its partners in Europe, after denying its involvement initially.

In a Facebook comment posted Maria Zakharova wrote that “US diplomacy has been working hard denying America had had a hand in the 2013 Maidan protests in Kiev and  the February 2014 coup, and blaming Russia for allegedly provoking the Ukrainian unrest, brainwashing the local population and implementing the so-called 'Crimean scenario'”.

Maria Zakharova added that this was exactly the “reason” behind the Western attempts to isolate Russia.

In an interview with CNN on February 1, Obama claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had made his decisions on Crimea after being caught off-guard by mass anti-government protests on Kiev's Independence Square, as well as by then-President Viktor Yanukovich fleeing, after the West "had brokered a deal to transition power in Ukraine."
