UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the Security Council on Friday condemned the terrorist attacks in Egyptian North Sinai, calling for those behind it to be brought to justice.

UNITED NATIONS, January 30 (Sputnik) — Ban Ki-moon and members of the Security Council "condemned the terrorist attacks in North Sinai on 29 January, which killed dozens of people, including civilians, and injured scores of others."

UN Secretary General conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and expressed his solidarity with the people of Egypt.

Calling the attack terrorist, the Security Council "reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security."

The UN underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of this terrorist attack to justice, urging all states to cooperate actively with the Egyptian Government in this regard.

A series of terrorist attacks in the North of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt killed at least 25 people and injured over 50 on Thursday.

On Friday an Egypt-based militant group affiliated with Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks.
