Islamic State Leader in Pakistan Gets Funds via US
WASHINGTON, January 29 (Sputnik) — The United States will look into a report, alleging the Islamic State (IS) funneled money through the United States to support the terrorist group, the State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said Thursday.

“I don’t even know that this report is accurate, so let me look into it first,” State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said, responding to a question regarding a report in The Express Tribune newspaper if senior Islamic State commander Yousaf al-Salafi, captured by Pakistan last week, was receiving funding routed through the United States to run the organization in Pakistan and recruit fighters for Syria.

Salafi, a Pakistani-Syrian, was reportedly organizing IS operations in Pakistan and carried out the recruitment of locals to fight in Syria on behalf of the IS militant group.

The IS is a Sunni jihadist group that seized vast areas across Syria and Iraq, proclaiming a caliphate in June on territories under its control.
