MOSCOW, January 21 (Sputnik) – Kiev policy towards eastern Ukraine amounts to government-sponsored terrorism, Israeli journalist Avigdor Eskin told Radio Sputnik.

"One can really characterize [Kiev policy in eastern Ukraine] as a government-sponsored terrorism," he said, adding that the Ukrainian army shells civil objects in Donbas on a regular basis. "They just destroy the houses with the living people inside. That is something that they are doing [daily]," he added.

Kiev’s punitive operation against independence supporters is a war crime, according to the journalist. "It is something that the West has to realize. And they will do it, sooner or later. But instead, what they are doing, they trying to insult and humiliate President Putin, undermine his peaceful role there," he said.

Russian President should have been formally invited to the memorial event to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp. "I still believe that the Americans or the English … will not tolerate Poland’s behavior, because we have to recognize the role of the Soviet Union in the liberation of Auschwitz," Eskin said.

"And we – Jews – are … so grateful to Russian soldiers, who liberated people in the concentration camps," the journalist said. He urged all the Jewish organizations not to participate in the events in Poland, if President Putin is not there and does not play the major role, because he represents the nation which saved us. "We should never forget it," he emphasized.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that a Russian representative will attend the memorial events in Auschwitz, which will be held on January 27.

According to Eskin Jews in the United States and the United Kingdom "understand that it is absolutely intolerable for us to condone any attempts of rewriting history of the WW II. … By rewriting history, by undermining the role of Russia some people allow the neo-Nazi forces to grow up. And this is what we are witnessing nowadays."
