More Resources Needed to Prevent Next Ebola Endemic: Experts
Since the outbreak began in Guinea in late 2013, WHO estimates that the Ebola virus has been confirmed or suspected in a total of 21,296 cases.

Most of the cases were recorded in the three hardest-hit West African countries — Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, according to the health watchdog.

The case fatality among the patients, who have been hospitalized, is between 57 and 60 percent in the three most heavily-affected West African countries.

In addition, the global organization particularly notes that "significant efforts have been made in all WHO Regions to strengthen Ebola preparedness."

Ebola is a deadly disease that spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person, or though contact with contaminated clothing or possessions.
