CHICAGO, JANUARY 13 (Sputnik), Elizabeth Wojt — Car manufacturers are making waves with the unveiling of innovative concept cars and ideas at the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) currently taking place in Detroit, Michigan.

Among manufacturers with impressive new designs are Honda, Ford, and Toyota.

"Our commitment was to create an all-new NSX that is true to the heritage of NSX—a supercar that delivers a new driving experience, one where every part of the vehicle is respectful of the smartest part of the car, the driver," said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president and general manager of the Acura division.

"The soul of a car is the emotional connection it makes with the driver. With the NSX, that connection will be intense and immediate," Accavitti elaborated.

Honda's shiny red production model turned heads with its turbocharged V6 and its Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. The 2016 model has grown since the 2013 concept car and has lengthened by 3 inches, widened by 1 inch, and is longer in its wheelbase. The new NSX is sporting a more aggressive-looking cab-forward design in addition to more inlets, scoops, and spoilers. Despite many changes to the vehicle, the 2016 model pays homage to the original NSX by sporting the original tail light design.

Among admirers of the NSX were comedians Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno who both have their eye on purchasing the first new model of the car expected to cost some $155,000. Honda is set to take custom orders for the new NSX this summer with deliveries to take place later this year.

Ford also revealed details of a secret project it has been working on for over a year to manufacture and sell a Ford GT super car in 2016. According to Joe Hinrichs, President of the Americas for Ford, only a handful of people knew of the future plans.

Ford has claimed the new GT will have one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any production car.

The GT carbon fiber super car will boast a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with more than 600 horsepower along with aluminum subframes mounted at each end and wrapped in carbon fiber body panels. The GT has also caused a buzz due to its unique set of upwards swinging doors. Only a few of the new GTs will be built and sold in the United States before going international according to Executive Chairman Bill Ford.

Toyota also caused a stir with its 2016 Toyota Tacoma. Although no super car, the new pickup truck features a strengthened frame, weight-saving hot-stamped steel body components, a quieter interior and a redesigned suspension setup. The 2016 Tacoma also includes either a 2.7-liter gasoline inline-four or a 3.5-liter gasoline V6.

The outside of the vehicle hardly strays from previous models, but the 2016 Tacoma will bring something new by making a GoPro camera mount near the rearview mirror standard to the model.

NAIAS 2015 will reveal several new concept cars during its January 12-13 press preview. The media event will be followed by the industry preview, charity preview, and finally result in the public show scheduled for January 17-25. Over 500 vehicles will be on display from various manufacturers.
