“While the International Space Station was traveling over the Mediterranean Sea, Expedition 42 Commander Barry 'Butch' Wilmore of NASA, with the assistance of Flight Engineer Samantha Cristoforetti of the European Space Agency, successfully captured the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft with the station’s robotic arm at 5:54 a.m. EST [10:54 a.m. GMT],” NASA said on its official website.
The Dragon spacecraft, designed by the private US SpaceX company, was carrying some 2.26 tonnes of supplies and equipment to the ISS on its fifth resupply mission and is expected to remain at the ISS for about a month.
The spacecraft was launched from Florida on Saturday and brought into orbit by SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, which failed to make a soft landing on an ocean platform after separating from the Dragon.
