French Prime Minister Admits Mistakes in Fighting Terrorism: Reports

Certain mistakes had been made in the fight against terrorism, French Prime Minister said to the BFMTV channel.

PARIS, January 9 (Sputnik) – French Prime Minister Manuel Valls admitted Friday to the BFMTV channel that certain mistakes had been made in the fight against terrorism.

"Seventeen people have died over the past three days. Of course, mistakes have been made," Valls said.

He also noted that other countries also face the terrorist threat, despite the security measures and joint international efforts.

"Surely, the [security] system has weak spots, and we will be reacting appropriately," the prime minister told the channel.

On Wednesday, French magazine Charlie Hebdo was attacked by gunmen who opened fire in the magazine's office, killing 12 people and injuring another 11. The two men, suspected of the attack, have been killed by law enforcers during a police raid on a print shop in an industrial zone near the town of Dammartin-en-Goele north-east of Paris.

On Thursday, a female police officer was killed during a shoot-out in the Paris suburb of Montrouge. On Friday, an armed man took several people hostage in a kosher food supermarket in eastern Paris and was later killed by the police.
