As a case in point, in France's central Ile-de-France region about 9,650 policemen have been deployed.

The precautionary measures came after a series of deadly attacks in Paris that are being treated as terrorist acts.

On Wednesday, armed men with AK-47s burst into the magazine's office. At least 12 people — 10 journalists and 2 police officers — were shot and killed in the incident.

On Thursday, a gunman opened fire near a metro station in Montrouge, a southern suburb of Paris, killing a female police officer and injuring a traffic police officer.
