Latest Bangalore Child Molestation Case, Police Disperse Angry Protestors

Protesting parents burnt school property and attacked the teacher accused of sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl in Bangalore, India.

NEW DELHI, January 7 (Sputnik) — A teacher has been accused of molesting an eight-year-old girl in the Indian city of Bangalore on Wednesday, amid growing concerns about the surge in child rape cases in the region.

Protesting parents burnt school property and attacked the teacher who has been accused of sexually harassing the student. The parents also demanded authorities take immediate action against the teacher.

Bangalore police used force to disperse and contain the angry protesters, and took the school teacher into custody.

The local police commissioner, M. N. Reddi, assured the parents that action will be taken against the culprit, adding that the "courts would decide on the punishment for the accused."

In July, a six-year-old school girl was raped twice by a teacher in Bangalore, also leading to mass protests by parents. The city, known as India's Silicon Valley, has witnessed a surge in the number of child rape cases in the past year.

Local authorities implemented a range of measures, including installing CCTV and GPS in school buses, to prevent child abuse incidents from occurring, but a large number of schools have not followed the regulations, according to local media.
