"We plan to restrict the movement of goods and people through the line of contact. We have identified seven entrance and exit roads in the area," Lysenko said at a briefing.
According to the Ukrainian military spokesperson, checkpoints manned by border guards will be set up along the corridors. Lysenko added the identities of those crossing the "border" will be established using their passports and no other documentation would be required.
Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) transportation minister Semyon Kuzmenko said earlier that transport links in the self-proclaimed republic were running as expected.
Both Kiev and the self-proclaimed republics in the southeast of Ukraine have repeatedly accused each other of violating a September ceasefire agreement brokered by Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). However, headway was made on December 9 with the declaration of a "silence regime" in a bid to resume peace talks.
Kiev's military operations against independence supporters date back to April 2014, when the Russian speaking population in eastern Ukraine refused to acknowledge the central government imposed in a February coup.
