“All those who go out to work are as important and valuable to our country as those who get the six figure bonuses. That means raising the minimum wage to over £8 an hour,” Miliband was quoted as saying by The Independent, during a campaign in Salford, Greater Manchester.
Miliband said the his party would raise the minimum wage from the current 6.50 pounds (almost $10) to over 8 pounds (about $12) by 2020, as reported by the newspaper.
Miliband also promised that the UK National Health Service (NHS) would be structured to guarantee an appointment with a General Practitioner within 48 hours of booking, with no more than a week's wait for a cancer test.
According to the newspaper, the NHS will be improved by implementing a mansion tax on properties worth more than 2 million pounds (about $3 million).
Miliband also touched on education, stating that his party aims to get young people into vocational education and apprenticeships.
Meanwhile, the he also affirmed that if his party won the elections, it would not allow the United Kingdom to hold a referendum on exiting the European Union in 2017, as pledged by Prime Minister David Cameron, if the conservative party won.
Miliband highlighted that the United Kingdom should instead demand a reform in the European Union “to better service Britain’s interests,” as reported by the newspaper.
