MOSCOW, January 1 (Sputnik) — The secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov demanded to strip the Ukrainian Inter TV Channel of its license for showing performances by Russian celebrities on New Year’s Eve.

“On New Year’s Eve when the whole nation was feeling united, Inter channel, as usually, acted against the Ukrainian state by broadcasting a concert by people who mocked our country by supporting terrorists and welcoming the seizure of Crimea and Donbas,” Turchynov said as quoted on the NSDC official website. He called on the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine to “immediately consider stripping Inter TV channel of the license.”

Late in November, Kiev banned 14 Russian performers who publicly voiced support for Crimea's reunification with Russia, from entering the territory of Ukraine. Earlier this year Ukraine has banned dozens of films and TV series featuring Russian actors who have visited the war-torn region of Donbas.

Crimea broke away from Ukraine in March following the referendum on which 96 percent of its population backed reunification with Russia. Despite this, Kiev still considers Crimea Ukrainian territory.

Ukrainian authorities also accused Russia of being militarily involved in Kiev's conflict with the independence supporters of the country’s southeast. Moscow has denied these allegations.
