The firing was stopped at the request of Pakistani Rangers who showed the white flag. Since then, no firing has been reported from Pakistan and the situation is totally under control, the director general said.

This is the fourth incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan within a week.

On Tuesday, Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire by resorting to firing in the Pallanwala sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

On Sunday, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing along the border in Arnia and Hiranagar area in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Thursday, Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire agreement by indulging in firing in Pansar area in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistani Rangers had violated the ceasefire again on December 24 in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Ceasefire violations from Pakistan had been a recurring phenomenon but since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came into power in India, there has been a considerable increase in the number of such incidents.

The Indian government has toughened its stance on the ceasefire violations and resorting to tit for tat tactics.
